Bano Qudsia was born on 28 November 1928 in Firozpur, as Qudsia Chattha. Her family was well educated. Her father was agrarian. Her brother Pervaiz Chattah was a painter.
Her family migrated to Lahore at the time of PAK India partition and began writing short stories while studying in 5th grade.She completed her graduated from Kinnaird women College in Lahore and later she she completed her Master in Urdu literature degree from GC University, Lahore in 1951.
She married to writer Ashfaq Ahmed whom she met at University duration. They had three sons Aneeq, Anees and Aseer. The couple is considered inseparable in their social life.
