Guru Nanak Jainti is one of the most prominent festivals of the Sikh community, celebrated as the birthday of their first Guru, Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion, played an important role in the formation and strengthening of the Sikh community. According to Sikh literature, Guru Nanak’s birthday is celebrated on the full moon day of the Indian lunar month of Kartik. Also known as Guru Purab or Guru Nanak’s Prakash Atso, this day is celebrated with great enthusiasm among Sikhs all over the nation.
Although there is no official word yet on the origin of the festival, it is believed that the practice of celebrating Guru Nanak’s birth is as old as Sikhism. One of the youngest religions in the world, Sikhism is said to have been founded by Guru Nanak, who is believed to have been born on April 14, according to the Nanakshahi calendar. ۔
However, there are some Sikh communities who believe that Guru Nanak was born on the full moon day of the lunar month of Kartik, which coincides with the month of October-November in the Gregorian calendar.
Therefore, different Sikh communities celebrate Guru Nanak Jainti either on the lunar month of Kartik or on the full moon day.
